Gita Chapter 3
Chapter 3 · 43 verses
Path of Selfless Service
Karm Yog
In Chapter 3, Arjuna wonders if he should renounce the world instead of fighting. Krishna explains that no one can completely avoid action, as our nature forces us to act. Instead of abandoning duties, one must practice Karma Yoga: performing responsibilities selflessly, without attachment to the results. Work done as an offering to the Divine frees us from material bondage. Krishna emphasizes that leaders must set a positive example for society by doing their duties diligently. Finally, Krishna identifies lust and anger as the greatest enemies of humanity, which cloud judgment and wisdom. To overcome them, Krishna advises Arjuna to control his senses, steady his mind, and connect with his higher spiritual self to achieve true peace.
