Chapter 5 · 29 verses
Path of Renunciation
Karm Sanyās Yog
In Chapter 5, Arjuna is confused about whether it is better to renounce all actions or to perform them. Krishna clarifies that while both paths lead to liberation, performing selfless action is superior and more practical. A true renouncer is not someone who stops working, but someone who does their duty without attachment to the results, dedicating everything to the Divine. Just as a lotus leaf remains untouched by water, such a person remains free from sin and karma. Krishna emphasizes that by controlling the mind and senses, treating all living beings with equal respect, and finding inner joy rather than chasing temporary worldly pleasures, anyone can achieve supreme peace and ultimate liberation in this very life.
