My heart is weighed down by pity, and my mind is completely confused about my duty. I am your student and I surrender to you; please tell me clearly what is truly best for me.
"It is much better to do your own life's work, even if you make mistakes, than to perfectly copy someone else's path. It is better to fail at your own true calling, because trying to be someone you aren't is deeply dangerous."
An intellect in the mode of goodness clearly understands what should be done and what should be avoided. It knows what to fear, what is safe, what keeps us trapped, and what truly sets us free.
I have now shared with you a wisdom that is deeper than any secret. Reflect on it completely, and then choose your own path and do as you wish.

- 1.21He then turned to Krishna and said: Krishna, please drive my chariot between the two armies.
- 1.22Keep it there so I can look at the men who have gathered here eager for war. I want to see exactly who I must fight in this great battle.
- 1.23I need to see those who have assembled here, ready to fight just to please the malicious son of Dhritarashtra.
- 1.31Krishna, I see only bad omens. I cannot see how any good can come from killing my own relatives in this battle.
- 1.35Even if they kill me, Krishna, I do not want to kill them. I would not do it for control of the entire universe, let alone for this earth.
- 1.36What joy could we possibly find in killing the sons of Dhritarashtra, Krishna? Even though they are the aggressors, we would only be taking on guilt by destroying them.
- 1.37Therefore, it is simply wrong for us to kill our own relatives, the sons of Dhritarashtra. How could we ever be happy after killing our own family, Krishna?
- 1.38Their minds are blinded by greed, so they do not see the wrong in destroying a family or the crime in betraying friends.
- 1.39But we can clearly see the disaster that comes from destroying a family. Why shouldn't we know better and turn away from this terrible act, Krishna?
- 1.44Krishna, I have always heard that people who destroy their family traditions are bound to suffer in a hellish state of existence.
- 1.45It is a tragedy that we are actually preparing to commit such a terrible crime. Driven by greed for political power and comfort, we are ready to slaughter our own relatives.
- 1.46Honestly, it would be much better for me to drop my weapons and refuse to fight. Let the armed sons of Dhritarashtra strike me down on the battlefield while I stand unresisting.
- 2.2Krishna said: Arjuna, where is this despair coming from in your hour of crisis? It is unworthy of a noble person, does not lead to heaven, and will only bring you disgrace.
- 2.4Arjuna said: Krishna, how can I shoot arrows in battle at men like Bhishma and Drona? They are my teachers and elders, and I ought to be honoring them instead.
- 2.6We do not even know which is worse: to conquer them or to be conquered by them. The sons of Dhritarashtra stand right before us, and if we kill them, we would not even want to go on living.
- 2.33If you walk away from this righteous war, you will be turning your back on your duty and your honor. By doing so, you will only bring moral failure upon yourself.
- 2.34People will talk about your disgrace for generations to come. For a person of honor, such a ruined reputation is far worse than death.
- 2.36Your enemies will mock your strength and spread cruel rumors about you. What could possibly be more painful than that?
- 2.37If you are killed in battle, you will attain heaven, and if you win, you will enjoy the earth. Therefore, Arjuna, stand up with firm determination and fight.
- 2.67Just as a strong wind sweeps a boat off its course on the water, letting your mind follow even a single wandering sense can completely carry away your good judgment.
- 3.1Arjuna asked: "Krishna, if you believe that clear understanding is better than action, why are you pushing me into this horrifying war?"
- 3.2"Your mixed messages are only confusing me. Please tell me clearly the single best path I should take to reach the highest good.""
- 3.34"It is natural to feel attraction and dislike when your senses encounter the world. The key is not to let these feelings control you, because they are stumbling blocks on your journey.""
- 3.36Arjuna asked: "Krishna, what is it that drives a person to do wrong? It often feels like people are pushed into it against their will, forced by some invisible power."
