Chapter 2, verse 35

Bhagavad Gita 2.35

Krishna says

bhayādraṇāduparataṃ maṃsyante tvāṃ mahārathāḥ
yeṣāṃ ca tvaṃ bahumato bhūtvā yāsyasi lāghavam

Meaning

The great generals will assume you fled the battlefield out of sheer cowardice. Those who used to respect you deeply will now look down on you with contempt.

What it means for us today

Our actions are often judged by our peers, and retreating from a noble cause is usually seen as cowardice, not compassion. We must consider how abandoning our duties affects our credibility and the trust others place in us.
