Bhagavad Gita 18.17

Krishna says

yasya nāhaṃkṛto bhāvo buddhiryasya na lipyate
hatvāpi sa imā~llokānna hanti na nibadhyate

Meaning

A person who is free from the ego of being the doer, and whose mind is untangled, is not bound by their actions. Even if they were to slay others in battle, they do not truly kill, nor do they suffer the karmic weight of the act.

What it means for us today

This directly addresses Arjuna's fear of fighting. When a person acts purely out of duty without selfish ego, they remain untainted by the consequences, even in extreme situations like a just war.
