puruṣaḥ prakṛtistho hi bhuṅkte prakṛtijānguṇān

Meaning

When the spirit resides within material nature, it experiences the various qualities nature produces. The spirit's attachment to these qualities is what draws it into different births, whether good or bad.

What it means for us today

When we become attached to worldly pleasures and pains, we bind ourselves to the cycle of rebirth. Our future destinations are shaped by the nature of our current attachments and desires.
