Meaning

A truly devoted person treats friends and enemies with the same respect, and stays completely balanced whether they are being honored or insulted. They remain steady through heat and cold, joy and sorrow, having let go of all worldly attachments.

What it means for us today

Treating friends and enemies alike does not mean lacking boundaries, but rather maintaining inner composure regardless of how others treat us. This equanimity protects us from the emotional rollercoaster of daily life.
