Bhagavad Gita 9.24

Krishna says

ahaṃ hi sarvayajñānāṃ bhoktā ca prabhureva ca
na tu māmabhijānanti tattvenātaścyavanti te

Meaning

I am the true recipient and master of all spiritual offerings. When people fail to recognize this higher reality, they slip back into the cycle of rebirth.

What it means for us today

When we perform actions or rituals without understanding that the Supreme is the ultimate recipient, our efforts remain tied to ego and worldly desires. Recognizing God as the true master of all actions frees us from the cycle of rebirth.
