Chapter 18, verse 2

Bhagavad Gita 18.2

Krishna says

kāmyānāṃ karmaṇāṃ nyāsaṃ saṃnyāsaṃ kavayo viduḥ
sarvakarmaphalatyāgaṃ prāhustyāgaṃ vicakṣaṇāḥ

Meaning

Krishna replied: The wise say that giving up actions driven by personal desire is true renunciation. On the other hand, experts define relinquishment as performing your work while abandoning any attachment to the results.

What it means for us today

Krishna clarifies the difference between the two terms. True detachment is not about stopping all work, but about working without selfish motives and letting go of the obsession with results.
